Seeking the Odd & Creative!

I created a Facebook Group!

CreativeArray

For a long time, I’ve wanted an accepting space on the internet where I could post the geeky, quirky, creative things that I love without uncomfortably about sharing it with all of my Facebook friends/family/coworkers. Sure, some of us don’t have a ton of friends on Facebook. But– Some of us do! If you’re like me, you also have a few of those unfiltered friends and family that can’t relate and often drop comments on the post that hang a dark cloud over it.

That’s where The Creative Array comes into play. It’s a group meant for all of the artsy, oddball, crafty, creative, geeky, philosophical, nerdy posts to go that you may not share with on your personal News Feed.

This is that place that you can post that weird thought that popped into your head, or that theory you had about life. It’s the place to let your creativity and mind run free. Did you sketch or paint something that you want to share with like-minded people? This where you do that. Want critique or advice on a project that you’ve wanted to/already started? Ask it here.

I really like to think of it as a sanctuary for oddballs to gather together and embrace all the things that make us odd and different while celebrating creativity.

There isn’t judgement here. Only perfectly honest eccentricity.

Even if you’re hesitant, I encourage everyone to visit our page and see for yourselves:

Flirting via Vehicles = Fail

I have a question first and then I’ll rant.

Why in the world do men think that it’s a good idea to flirt with women in their vehicles while they themselves are in vehicles?

Why?!

I’m driving from home from work today on the highway. I come up on a bit of traffic and it slows everyone down from the regular speed limit. From the corner of my eye, I notice that the truck to my right is remaining almost exactly at my side. When I speed up and slow down, it matches me. This rarely happens on its own when you’re in slowed down traffic on a highway.

After a few seconds I look over sort of absentmindedly just in time to see some random older man hardcore staring me down with this creeper smile on his face. His lane was speeding up, but he was adamant about this happy creeper stare and even craned his head back as he moved forward.

Seriously?

Dude thought he looked like this:

When he really looked like:

smile-guy-feature1

I wish I could say this was the first time, but it wasn’t. This happens all the time. It’s like these men think that the windows on their vehicles are made with one-way glass.

Let me just say it right now: We can see you!

I also wish I could say that this was the worst time, but of course, it wasn’t.

I can vividly recall a time when I was pulled up to a stop light on the way home from work. (I’m sensing a pattern) I had my windows rolled halfway down because I didn’t have a/c. I saw movement out of the corner of my eye and looked over. A man, all sweaty and greasy from working, was hanging out of his window pointing back at his truck and then making the “Call Me” hand gesture repeatedly.

I looked back at his work truck to see that it had a phone number written in big bold letters along with the name of the company.

I just laughed a little, shook my head, and reached over to turn my music up.

Flirting from vehicle to vehicle is not only potentially dangerous since you’re not really paying attention to driving, but it’s ridiculous in my opinion. I have yet to have any nice experiences nor have I heard of any.

So there is it. It’s my belief that this should stop. Just stop it. I hope that most women find this as unimpressive as I do, but if you don’t please feel free to tell me why below.

I’d like guys to chime in too! Do you do this? Have you thought about doing this? Do you not do this? Tell me, Tell me!

Also, cute baby below gets a firm thumbs up!

You’re an INFJ! – Personality Test

As a kid, I was fascinated by astrology and its potential ability to teach you about yourself through your astrological sign. I don’t mean horoscopes, but more the traits associated with each of the signs. I couldn’t get enough of learning what it meant to be me!

As an adult, I’ve ran into the Myers-Briggs personality type test. Specifically, this assessment is a “psychometric questionnaire designed to measure psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions”. In simpler terms, it takes a deeper more scientific look at your personality.

This personality test is used widely among employers, but I don’t think it should be exclusive to the work environment. It can teach you a lot about your personality by breaking it down to four determining traits.

infp

For example, I am an INFJ:   I-introvert, N-intuitive, F-feeling, J-judging.

You are either:

Introvert or Extrovert

Intuitive or Sensing

Feeling or Thinking

Judging or Perception

The above traits are categorized as:

Introversion/ Extroversion  are “Attitudes”, preferences for the way that we function cognitively.

Intuitive/Sensing and Feeling/Thinking  are “Functions”, with intuition and sensing being information-gathering function and feeling and thinking being decision-making functions.

Judging/Perception  are “Lifestyle Preferences”, preferences to how we react to the outside world.

MyersBriggsTpes

If you are anything like me, you will find the results of this personality test ultra-fascinating. I really can’t get enough of learning about myself.

Nifty little fact: The creator of the MBTI was the same type as me!

*I’d like to note that if you do take the test, be very critical of yourself. Choose answers that best fit how you act and feel. Don’t choose answers that sound best to you or that are ideal in your mind because you may not always act or feel that way! That also won’t result in an accurate profile.

Here are two sites that you can take the MBTI for Free:

16 Personalities

Truity

After you get your results, feel free to come back to this post and view the charts below that will tell you your Star Wars and Harry Potter personality match!

Sense8 – A Netflix Original Series: Review

There a few new shows that I watched during my unemployment period, and Sense8 was easily the most fascinating of them all.

sense8

Sense8 is about a science fiction (woot!) drama about eight strangers from different parts of the world that suddenly become mentally and emotionally linked to each other. This is referred to them as being “reborn” as Sensates, or rather humans with more access and control over the regions of our brains that are normally dormant. This gives them the ability to sense one another emotionally and mentally; making them able to communicate telepathically, sense, and use each other’s language and overall knowledge.

sense8WillGorki

C’mon, isn’t that coolest shit ever?

I have to admit one little fact. I started and finished this series in one day. That’s right. I spent the whole day watching this show on Netflix. And it easily could’ve been because of Netflix’s nasty little habit of just starting up the next episode, but it wasn’t. I was hooked. I was so fascinated by the concept of this show.

So these eight strangers are all vastly different. It’s not just that they live on various corners of the world, but they all come from different cultures, backgrounds, and have greatly contrasting personalities. Take eight different personalities and connect them and you have one dynamic linked group.

sense8-episode-7

On top of being able to access each other’s knowledge, the characters of this story slowly but surely learn from each other and their differences. They are able to see life’s troubles and lessons from a completely different perspective through their link. Certain characters become closer than others, but in the end they all help each other in some form or fashion. Imagine having a family that was readily accessible for help mentally, emotionally, or physically no matter where they were. That’s right, people. They are able to put their consciousness into each others bodies and take control temporarily to help one another. Some of my favorite scenes are those where they “jump” bodies. Greatness.

The plot of this show dips into a lot of sensitive issues like politics, identity, religion, sexuality, gender, and religion that are either left on the back burner by most science fiction shows or not present at all. I have to give them props for that. Not only is it balls-y, but it really allows the viewer to connect with one if not more than one of the eight main characters. It makes them all incredibly relatable. They’re not perfect. They struggle with a lot of the same things that a lot us do.

Nomi2

Now you may be thinking that eight main characters is too many. How could you smoothly switch from one to another especially when they live in different parts of the world? I guess that’s where this mental link comes into play. It really does feel as though they shift from point of views rather seamlessly because they’re linked. You don’t ever feel as though one is getting more attention than the others.

I should also mention that while this show is a drama, it contains a little bit of every genre. Again, I believe we have the differences in the characters to thank for this. We have drama, action, adventure, romance, suspense, and even kung fu. It really has something for everyone!

I would definitely recommend that everyone give this show a chance. I will say that the first episode or two runs a little slow. They’re the introductory episodes, and they put more emphasis on their awakening mental capabilities. However, after that it does pick up. You get more fast paced scenes the further you get, and everything gets pretty intense toward the finale.

So go watch Sense8! Seriously. If you don’t like it, then I give you every right to come back and complain. If you do like, come back and tell me why. I’d love to hear other opinions on this show since I have yet to meet anyone who has watched it!

I realize that not everyone has an entire day to watch an entire series. Don’t be a bum like me. 😉

PS: Sense8 has some pretty graphic scenes (nudity, sex, violence, blood, hooray!) so I wouldn’t watch it with young folk around!

Random Topic #1: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

August2014BlogKH

I think the only constant in my desires for a career as a child were animals. I always wanted to do something that was related to animals.

Some of the first careers told to you as a child were:

  • Doctor
  • Teacher
  • Astronaut
  • Pilot
  • Veterinarian
  • Firefighter
  • Police Officer
  • President
  • Soldier
  • Actor/Actress
  • Writer
  • Artist

Of course, I wanted to be a veterinarian! I mean, it is the highest or near the highest paying career you can have that involves animals. I guess they really wanted us to shoot high! Go big or go home, eh?

So for a few years that was my default answer any time an adult asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. As a child, that was a common enough question. As an adult that does the asking or hearing others that ask, I wonder if we just do it to hear the cute answers they give us. I don’t think many adults take it seriously. I mean, we just sort of chuckle when they tell us that they want to be an astronaut or doctor, right?

Returning to the original topic, my answer to this question changed a few times. One that I remember particularly was that I wanted to own a pet treat business. I wanted a little shop where I could make homemade pet treats for pet owners! I’m pretty sure that I got this idea from watching something on Animal Planet, haha.

A little while later, I got it in my head that I wanted to be an animal trainer. I wanted to understand animal behavior and work with them in that respect. I’m sure I really had my heart fixed on working with more exotic animals, but I think I would’ve settled for dogs and cats.

I have to admit that I have many interests and passions. Throughout middle school and high school, the answer of what career I wanted changed a few times. They included animal behaviorist, environmentalist, writer, teacher, translator, and historian to name a few.

Because of my indecisiveness, I’m very glad that I decided not to start college right out of high school. That would have ended badly for me and my finances.

As an adult, I can now confidently say that I want to go to school to study English as my major with the hopes of working at a publishing company. I really want to be a driving force in releasing new books into the world. I want to make a difference in helping the book industry survive even as things convert digitally. I believe it is really important for young people to develop a passion for reading if not just an interest.

If not a publishing company for books, then I’ll probably seek out an online magazine or website to write for. I think I’ll be happy as long as I’m contributing in some form or fashion.

Here’s to hoping that works out!

So, as a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

How Introverts Can Change How We Think

So I’ve had a few questions rolling around in my mind for a while.

Does society generally reject introverts? Are they very much misunderstood?

I think, yes.

This question came up because of a frustrating situation that I encountered at a party. It was an average party with food, music, people, fun, ect. Keep in mind that my personality leans more toward introverted, but I still enjoy the environment of a party! Shocked?

So there I was enjoying the party much like everyone else. I ate, talked, and danced to a few songs that I liked. As time went on, I watched as the extroverts continuously tried to pull the introverts to the dance floor. Because, well, how could they possibly be having a good time unless they were doing it in the same method as the extroverts? That just didn’t make sense.

Eventually, I was spotted. I had been sitting through one too many songs, and so of course I wasn’t enjoying myself.  (I hope everyone is catching the sarcasm.)

Why aren’t you dancing?”, “You should go dance!” – Or my favorite: they run up to you, grab your arms, and pull at you until you go out onto the dance floor. Well, I didn’t. I’m stubborn like that.

I just wanted to ask them, “Why?” I was having a perfectly good time doing what I was doing. I’m an adult. I know how I enjoy my time after twenty-five years on this earth.

Why is that if you aren’t experiencing your surroundings as an extrovert would, people think that you are unhappy, unmotivated, and/or just not having a good day?

Introvert

Are we really living in a time and society that is still so misguided about what it means to be an introvert?

Introversion means that the person generally thinks before he/she speaks and acts. They’re drawn to internal stimulation versus external. Extroversion is the opposite; they draw energy from their surroundings, people, ect.

That being said, it should also be said that people can’t be sorted into either type. You are not solely one or the other because personalities are too complex. You may lean toward one more than the other, and that’s when it becomes obvious to you and others.

I tend to lean toward introversion. While I like to talk and dance, there are times that I prefer not to. It has nothing to do with me being unhappy.

When we are young, it’s more accepted to be introverted. “Oh, he/she is just shy.” In some cases, it’s even considered cute! As you age, however, you are expected to “grow out of it”. It’s sad to say, but introverted children aren’t usually viewed in a good light by their peers and most adults. Some parents even think that something may be wrong with their children if they don’t grow out of it.

Ultimately, I think we live in a society that deems introversion as unacceptable and incorrect. While I understand that in order to work certain jobs and participate in certain activities to you need to acquire more extroverted traits, I don’t think it’s acceptable to put a stigma around introversion.

tumblr_nhsai64zuR1sf7d3ao1_500

There is nothing wrong with being introverted! In fact, I would be the first to encourage extroverted people to embrace introverted habits. Listen to your thoughts, pay attention, and try to develop self-awareness.

I think it would do a lot of good if society slowed down and truly took the time to turn their attention inward.

Also, the below image = me! Although, that could be part introversion, part animal lover-ism. 😉

So, are you an introvert? Are you an extrovert?

What do you think of how society views and treats introverts?
